C.E. Floyd Is Officially a Purpose-Driven Business

C.E. Floyd Company is now a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). PBC is a designation for a purpose-driven business. A Public Benefit Corporation gives the Board of Directors a legal responsibility to create the stated Public Benefit in addition to creating a return for shareholders. A typical company is only required to create a return for shareholders.

Mentoring Matters: A Father-Son Experience

Mark Giglio, senior project superintendent, got the experience of a lifetime while overseeing construction of a new gymnasium and school house at Riverbend School in Natick, MA. His son Tony was assigned to the project as assistant project superintendent. They had worked on a project together before, but this time, Mark was directly responsible for training and mentoring Tony.

Community engagement is important to us. Leading by example, Chris Floyd and his family recently volunteered at Cradles to Crayons. Following their volunteer experience, they “adopted” three kids through the organization and were responsible for providing them with a winter wardrobe.
As a company, we complete service projects throughout the year, but we also enable employees to give time to an organization of their choice. Every C.E. Floyd Company employee gets one paid volunteer day off each year. Keep reading to learn how three employees recently used their volunteer time off.

C.E. Floyd recently competed in the 2014 Boston Dragon Boat festival- and came back with some Silver medals! Our company team was formed a few months back with employees from C.E. Floyd, some others from architecture and engineering firms like DiMella Shaffer, AVID Engineers, and Beacon Architecture, and a few other friends to fill the boat; we needed a Drummer, Steersperson, and up to 16 Paddlers!

The series is part of a company initiative to encourage Professional Development; we believe that the short, informational TED Talks will allow us to think differently about the services we deliver, how to be better leaders, and how to work as a team. We began the series with Simon Sinek’s talk on “How Great Leaders Inspire Action,” and discussed how we use his ideas in our own industry.

McMenamin Volunteers at Cradles to Crayons as Part of Community Connect 2014

On April 1st, Catie McMenamin participated in Community Connect 2014, where she volunteered at Cradles to Crayons with over 100 other members of the CRE Industry. She worked in the Library, where she inspected books for “like-new” quality, sorted them into age groups and created bundles of five books to go into customized “KidPacks”.

Derby Academy Hard Hat Tour: Connecting classroom learning to the real world
February 18th, 2014
Recently Derby Academy, in Hingham, MA, hosted an educational ‘hard hat’ tour of the school’s new Innovation Center for students, which is now complete. Students of all ages visited the construction site and wore construction hats to go through the building. C.E. Floyd and Olson Lewis + Architects worked together to create an interactive experience for all ages by demonstrating connections between the skills students learn in the classroom with the real world applications of them in the construction site.

Our Bedford office participated in our 11th annual Big Wishes for Little Wanderers Gift Drive benefitting The Home for Little Wanderers. We donated gifts to 10 children and made a financial donation to the organization as well.
