C.E. Floyd employees give back
May 18th, 2017
Check out how two more C.E. Floyd employees used their volunteer day off.
Stephanie Donahue: Emmaus
Stephanie volunteered with Emmaus to serve a community lunch at Trinity Episcopal Church in Haverhill, MA on MLK Day. She worked with a group of volunteers to set up, prepare and serve the meal for more than 150 people, which included over 60 families.
“I wish to thank C.E. Floyd for the volunteer opportunity to serve others, especially on MLK day,” said Stephanie.
Emmaus hosted a Resource Fair and Family Theater event, which also included the lunch. The event was free and open to families with children from the Emmaus programs and to members of the community. Participants were also given a backpack containing healthy lifestyle items.
Emmaus offers emergency shelter for both families and individuals, with the goal of providing not just a place to sleep but also services to help those who are homeless get back on their feet.
Lindsay Fields: USO
Lindsay volunteered with The United Services Organization (USO) New England in March at a port greet in Boston. She and other volunteers welcomed sailors from the USS San Jacinto CG-56, who were in town for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Volunteers handed out complimentary girl scout cookies, tickets to ImprovBoston, and brochures and maps of the city. They also answered the sailors’ questions and gave them advice on things to do in Boston.
Lindsay also volunteers for the USO every other week at Logan Airport. The USO maintains a relaxing space at the airport that offers a variety of resources for active duty and retired military personnel and their families when traveling through Boston.
“Military service members give up so much for us,” said Lindsay. “I love that I am able to give back to them by volunteering for the USO. I think it’s really awesome to be a part of a company that supports my interests by letting me take a paid day off to volunteer.”
