CEF Kicks off TED Talks Series!

April 18th, 2014 by Ashley Buckley

Today, C.E. Floyd kicked off our Lunch & Learn TED Talk Series! The series is part of a company initiative to encourage Professional Development; we believe that the short, informational TED Talks will allow us to think differently about the services we deliver, how to be better leaders, and how to work as a team. We began the series with Simon Sinek’s talk on “How Great Leaders Inspire Action,” and discussed how we use his ideas in our own industry.

Sinek points out that successful and innovative leaders and companies “Start with ‘Why’ rather than ‘What’.” In our follow-up discussion, we related this to C.E. Floyd’s outlook on projects, in that we understand that we aren’t just building a building for our clients; many of them have certain visions and purposes for these projects and when we understand why the client is building, the project becomes more successful.

We talked about a specific school renovation project where a student-signed beam was carefully removed, stored, and re-installed in the new building as a surprise for the particular teacher’s classroom. The Superintendent wasn’t instructed to do this, but noticed that it might be of sentimental value to the school, so he and other team members took the time to make sure it was preserved. The simple gesture from a few members of our team made the Owner, teachers, and students very happy and appreciative and proved our dedication and attention to detail, adding to the success of the project and earning a client’s trust!
